We're really excited about this at UNR. In the North of England, where the mechanisation of cloth was born, we're keen to re-establish links between textile manufacturers in the UK and the northern designers keen to use those products.
After Brexit it has become harder to import and export from the UK. This has caused damage to business but also provides an opportunity. An opportunity to grow internal markets of demand and supply. With all the turmoil in international markets, led by the current US tariffs, it is really import for UK PLC that we maximise UK spend at businesses in the UK to help stabilise the economy here and create domestic growth.
We are reaching out to UK cloth manufacturers and brokers to establish a market through our network of young talented designers building their own businesses. It is our main aim to build a market in the north to stop the brain drain down to London and help businesses thrive up here, avoiding the cost of living problems in the capital and surrounding counties.
English Cloth
It is with this new market in mind Andy Parr, one of our directors, met with Sam Thorpe a director at English Cloth.
We agreed in principle to work together to supply UK manufactured cloth to our designer network. English Cloth are based in Huddersfield and export all over the world. They have a particular market in TV and Film production with their cloth being used on set in Peaky Blinders and the Gilded Age, just two of their customers.
It is with a sense of pride that UNR work with English Cloth as we, together, support the Northern Fashion Economy. Sam and Andy agreed that it is incumbent on us all to work hard to re-establish trade in the North, the place where fashion and the mechanisation of cloth, was born.
